Is vacuum pipe lifting safe?
Vacuum lifting is the safest method of pipe and plate lifting available today. Vacuum lifting replaces the need to use hooks, chains, clamps or slings with suction pads which cannot break or slide off, eliminating the possibility of loads falling during operation. The suction pad also retains a fixed hold, minimising the movement of loads and providing full control throughout the entire lift. Our vacuum lifters are also operated via a wireless remote control meaning that your team can remain at a safe distance whilst still being in full control of the lift with the press of a button. Additionally, the wireless remote control ensures that there are no electrical connections which can be entangled or fail during a lift.
Vacuum lifting eradicates the need for workers to dangerously climb onto lift loads - particularly in adverse weather conditions - as the vacuum suction pad attaches the load to the lifter independently.
How does vacuum lifting work?
Vacuum lifting is a simple solution to efficient pipe and plate lifting. A vacuum pump installed within the lifter produces a vacuum - a space without any atmospheric pressure - between the suction pads and the load. This essentially allows the suction pad and the load to become one with no space for separation between the two. Enabling the vacuum lifter to move and release heavy loads with ease. With no possibility for the load to move or drop unexpectedly whilst the vacuum pump is in operation.
What is the Return On Investment?
This depends on each individual customer and project. On average, the ROI timescale will be shorter in comparison to conventional lifting methods, such as cranes with hooks and slings. Vacuum lifting requires less staff to assist with load lifting procedures, significantly reducing labour costs and often providing notable financial return for its users. For more information, refer to our ROI calculator.
Will it fit on my machine?
In short, yes. We can supply any attachment required to ensure that our vacuum lifter will fit your machine. The most common machines being: any size excavators, cranes, side booms and forklifts among others. We also supply pins, bushings and shims to fit to your specific excavator.
Is vacuum lifting safer than conventional methods?
Yes. Vacuum lifting allows you to lift extremely heavy loads without your team having to handle any attachments to secure the load to the lifter. The powerful vacuum technology can securely attach the vacuum lifter to any pipe or plate load with ease and will ensure that those loads remain in place for the entire operation. This means that your team will never need to climb onto loads or put themselves in harm’s way to secure any lift attachments.
Vlentec vacuum lifters are controlled wirelessly via remote control. Ensuring there is no risk of electrical connections between the carrier and the lifter becoming entangled or failing during lifting. Cables providing the electrical supply to the electric lifter go through the centre of the rotator and a slip ring maintains unlimited rotation in any direction.
All Vlentec vacuum lifters are installed with various safety mechanisms to prevent harm even in the unlikely event of power failure. Each lifter is designed with ample vacuum reserves to support lifting capacity to ensure loads do not fall in such an event. All of these unique safety features of Vlentec vacuum lifters guarantee the safest lifting method available on the market.
How long will a machine last?
With the correct maintenance, Vlentec vacuum lifters can provide long-term vacuum lifting performance.
How much maintenance can we expect?
A benefit to vacuum lifting is the minimal maintenance required. The electric vacuum lifter requires notably less maintenance in comparison to the diesel vacuum lifter. For daily use, maintenance is limited to minor activities such as filter inspections and refueling. Depending on use, the rubber seal in the suction pad may require daily inspection and incidental replacement. Every few months the pump or motor oil may also require replacement depending on its type. We promote smooth and controlled usage of our vacuum lifters, ensuring the best level of effectiveness and that each product is well looked after and used respectfully for maximum performance and minimum maintenance long-term. In addition to the service manual, the most important maintenance instructions are also indicated by stickers on the machine's designated components.
Which loads can we lift?
Vlentec vacuum lifters can lift a large variety of materials including: pipes, plates and slabs. As well as any reasonably smooth loads which are not too porous, including spirally welded pipes. For example: steel, composite, concrete, various coatings, HDPE and PVC.
How do we operate the vacuum lifter?
Prior to our customers using a Vlentec lifter, operators are provided with full training to ensure they know exactly how to work the machinery. Operators also receive a certificate to demonstrate that they have completed this training.
We purposefully engineer our vacuum lifters to be as simple as possible for users. For example, on an excavator it becomes an extension of the machine. The standard controls of the excavator are used in combination with a wireless remote control which operates the instant suction ‘on’ and ‘off’ function. Or, if the lifter is attached to a crane, operators can simply lower it onto the pipe and use the remote control to initiate suction ‘on’ and ‘off’, allowing lifting loads with ease.
Is vacuum lifting really a one-man-job?
Yes. On an excavator or a forklift vacuum lifting is a one-man operation. However, local regulations may require for a crane spotter, dogman or rigger.
